Port de Bales

This videorace presents this beautiful climb starting from Bagneres-de-Luchon. We follow the signpost for the Col de Peyresourde, for indeed, this is also the start of this somewhat more famous climb. We also follow the first 4 kilometers over the same route. Soon it goes up to 8%, and some sections reach percentages in the double digits. After 4 km we leave the D618 and the Peyresourde, and drive right onto the D51 towards Port de Bales.
Immediately, you get the hardest part of the climb with two kilometers of more than 10% on average with pieces up till 12%. Once survived this, we will really enjoy the climb. The ascent meanders through sleeping villages at very bicycle-friendly gradients amidst beautiful surroundings. When you turn right onto the D51D in Bourg d'oeil, it gets more seriously again. The averages go back to 8% with some sections above 10%. The col however never gets real tough. Once reached the top, you get a wonderful view of the other montains. Descent to Ferrere and the last easy chilometers to finish the race.
